Episode #157: Your #1 lead generator in 2020

In today’s podcast episode I want to make a bold statement.  A declaration if you will. I want to declare here and now that if you want to scale your business in 2020, the BEST lead generator you are going to have and need to leverage is your Facebook Group.  And so let me tell you why I feel this way.

First let’s backtrack and let me give you some insight.  Social media is changing and becoming more restrictive. Facebook and Instagram Ads are GREAT, I use them daily, but they are becoming more competitive and restrictive.  Ad costs are going up, with all of the privacy stuff that is going on inside of Facebook and Instagram, and with the election coming up, it’s going to get harder and harder to push through the white noise without a MASSIVE Ads budget.

Plus, Facebook and Instagram Ads are depending on a pattern interruptors in order to get used and maximized. Yes, you can get super specific with your audience and targeting, yes you can create amazing creatives that speak to those audiences, but at the end of the day it’s becoming more and more competitive in a noisier and noisier marketplace.

This is why things like Pinterest, LinkedIn, and YouTube are growing rapidly with online marketers, they are search engines.  So instead of being pattern interruptors, they are based on searches. So users have to actually search keywords to find the answers to the problems they are looking to solve.

Facebook and Instagram depend on pattern interruptors while things like LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube are search-based.

So is Facebook and Instagram no longer valid places to market your business?  Is it not even worth the hassle of trying?

Absolutely not!  Facebook and Instagram certainly have their place within your marketing strategy.

So let’s unpack this a bit.  How are Facebook Groups different from the Feed or Stories?  How can we use our Facebook Group to grow our business? Why is this so important or even matter?

Let’s dive in:

1. The name of your Facebook Group is keyword based.  Just like on Pinterest, and LinkedIn, and YouTube, you have to type in terms that apply to the pain point you are solving.  So let’s say you are looking to simplify your home and connect with others who have done this. You search in the search bar that lives in the top of your Facebook app the term “minimalism” and page after page after page comes up with Groups who talk about this topic.  This a HUGE advantage for you as a business owner! Think about the power you have here in how you can connect with your ideal client!

2. Groups are community-based.  Now, once you get someone into your Group, you have the unique opportunity to connect with them on a deeper level because of the interaction capabilities you have built-in your Group.  With the more search engine-based platforms, interaction isn’t a part of the innate workings of that search engine. It’s information, someone lands on your piece of content, and then they go on their merry way.  Whereas with Facebook Groups, your Group member is used to interacting, commenting, DMing, friend requesting, all of that. There are so many ways to connect with someone via Facebook.

3. Facebook wants us using Facebook Groups.  I hit on this before a bit, but when Facebook had all of the privacy concerns brought up they shifted their focus from casting a broad net, to casting a deep net.  AND after this change in focus was announced, started rolling out advertising, which they’ve NEVER done before. They’re spending their advertising dollars on TV commercials promoting Facebook Groups.  Y’all, this is MASSIVE. And as business owners we need to listen up. And ever since this started happening, Facebook has been adding new features to Groups on the regular. You now can do Watch Parties, you can upload modules or trainings into your Groups, there are more back end components that allow you to set up the Group in a way that works best for you as the owner, and you can even have mentorships and earn badges based on how you interact with the Group.  Facebook’s actions speak loud here, they want us using Groups.

4. There is the power of Facebook.  Whether we like it or not, Facebook is the world’s largest social media network.  We can’t get around that. When you interact on Facebook how Facebook wants you to interact, it’s algorithm rewards you by boosting your Group and sending it to others who are not a part of your Group.  It does the advertising FOR you. You sit back and reap the rewards of your strategy by being the head of a thriving, growing Group.

It is my prediction here and now that in 2020, your most sustainable lead generation strategy is going be from your Facebook Group.  It is also my prediction that along with that sustainable growth, your most qualified leads are going to come from your Facebook Group.
