EP 491 | Why I Host Bundles Before I Need Buyers
Listen to the podcast on:
You don’t need 500 more pieces of content
to find your next 500 email subscribers.
The Next 500:
Bundle Challenge
Design a Bundle that brings hundreds
of right-fit people onto your email list —
so you have the audience before it’s time to sell.
Why Hosting a Bundle Can Grow Your Email List Before Your Next Launch
You can have a really good offer, solid messaging, a sales page that makes sense, a Pitch Sequence that speaks to all the different reasons someone might buy. You can run the masterclass, send the emails, post the Reels, do all the things you’re supposed to do…
…and still have a disappointing launch.
Because sometimes the problem isn’t your launch.
There simply weren’t enough of the right people there to buy.
And that’s not a copy, sales page, or a “quick, let’s create another bonus!” problem.
It’s an audience problem. And the best time to solve an audience problem is not three days before your cart opens.
Grow Your Email List Before You Need the Buyers
We spend a LOT of time planning how we’re going to sell an offer.
What’s the launch event?
What emails are we sending?
What’s the urgency?
What’s going on the sales page?
What content are we creating?
Important questions.
But there’s another question that needs to come much earlier:
How are enough of the right people going to be there to see this offer?
Because your email marketing can only convert the people who are actually on your email list.
And if you keep launching to roughly the same group of people, you’re putting a tremendous amount of pressure on your marketing to magically create a different result from the same audience.
Sometimes the next thing you need isn’t a better launch.
You need a bigger pool of right-fit people to launch to.
Why Organic Email List Growth Can Feel So Slow
Most organic email list growth happens one person at a time.
Someone discovers your podcast, sees a Reel, finds your lead magnet, hears about you from a friend, searches for an answer and lands on your website.
Those are all valuable ways to grow an email list. I use them too.
But if you’re trying to bring your next 500 email subscribers into your business, finding them one person at a time can be painfully slow.
Meanwhile, there are other business owners who have already spent years building trusted audiences filled with people you would LOVE to meet.
That’s where collaborations get interesting.
Instead of always asking: “How can I find one more person?”
You can ask: “Who already has relationships with the people I want to reach?”
Why Hosting a Bundle Creates Different Leverage
I’m a huge fan of contributing to collaborations.
I contribute to Bundles, I speak at summits, I guest teach, I do podcast interviews. All of those strategies can introduce you to someone else’s audience.
But hosting a Bundle creates a different level of leverage.
When you contribute to someone else’s Bundle, you get to introduce yourself to their audience.
When you host the Bundle, every Contributor is helping introduce their audience to the event you created.
Your business becomes the container. You bring the experts together. Their audiences are being introduced to your event. And those new subscribers are joining your email list.
You’re no longer one person participating in someone else’s audience growth strategy. You’re creating the audience growth strategy.
My first hosted Bundle added 522 people to my email list and it generated $1,594 while it was live.
Since then, I’ve hosted more than 15 Bundles, and some have generated more than 2,500 signups.
That experience completely changed how I think about growing an email list. I don’t want to wait until I’m ready to sell something and suddenly realize: Oh crap. I need more people.
I want to build the audience before I need the buyers.
A Bigger Email List Isn’t Automatically a Better Email List
Now, before you yell at your screen: “But Allison, I don’t want 500 random freebie seekers!”
Good. Neither do I.
The goal isn’t to slap together the broadest Bundle imaginable and celebrate because 2,000 random humans joined your list.
Vanity metrics do not pay your bills. And adding thousands of people who will never care about what you sell mostly earns you a larger Kit bill.
The question isn’t simply: How do I get more subscribers?
It’s: Who does my business need more of?
Who would you LOVE to have discovering your work right now?
Who could eventually be a great fit for your program, membership, course, or other offer?
Because a Bundle doesn’t necessarily need to BE your next launch. It can build the audience for your next launch.
That’s the opportunity.
You bring hundreds of right-fit people into your world first.
Then your existing email marketing gets to do what it was built to do.
Nurture them.
Build the relationship.
Show them how you think.
Help them understand the problem.
And introduce the right offer when the time makes sense.
You’re building the room before it’s time to make the offer.
The Big Takeaway
You do not need to wait until launch week to discover you have an audience-size problem. Grow your email list before you need the buyers. And do it in a way that intentionally attracts people who make sense for what you want to sell next.
Want to Design the Bundle That Brings in Your Next 500 Subscribers?
That’s exactly what we’re doing inside The Next 500: The Bundle Challenge.
Join me live on October 6, 7, and 8 at 12:00 pm ET for this free three-day Challenge where we’ll look at how to design a Bundle that can attract your next 500 right-fit email subscribers.
Not 500 random people. But the people you actually want entering your business.
We’ll look at who your Bundle needs to attract, what role it should play in your marketing, and where it belongs in your larger sales strategy.
Because I don’t want you hosting a Bundle just because hosting a Bundle sounds fun. Your Bundle needs a job.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1: Are Bundles good for growing an email list?
A1: Hosting a Bundle can be an effective email list growth strategy because multiple Contributors are introducing their audiences to one collaborative event. Instead of relying solely on one-at-a-time organic discovery, a Bundle can help your business reach a much larger group of potential subscribers through collaboration marketing.
Q2: Don’t Bundles just attract freebie seekers?
A2: Someone downloading a free resource does not automatically mean they will never become a customer. Lead magnets, podcasts, masterclasses, and social media content are free too. The more important question is whether your Bundle is attracting people who make sense for your business and paid offers.
Q3: Should I host a Bundle right before I launch an offer?
A3: A Bundle can be especially valuable when it happens before you need those subscribers to buy. Rather than expecting hundreds of new subscribers to immediately purchase, you can use your email marketing to nurture those relationships and introduce your offer when the timing makes sense.
